RL Rumours: NRL centre set to return, Saints star wants NRL switch and Super League side makes mystery signings

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Williams knocked back clubs for huge extension

It’s been a busy week for George Williams who has been named England captain today and had his Warrington contract extended last week. It’s since been revealed that the new national team skipper turned down “a couple of clubs” in favour of remaining with Warrington. He previously hadn’t written off an NRL return.

NRL centre to return to Super League

Sky pundit Jon Wells has made the claim that former Super League men Dean Whare and Oliver Gildart are set to return to Super League for the 2024 season. Whare had been playing in the French Elite One division whilst Gildart has failed to impact the playing roster at NRL new side, The Dolphins. Wells even went on to suggest a destination for Gildart who hasn’t played Super League rugby since the 2021 season.

Five NRL players in line for Super League switch

The NRL has been an avenue for some brilliant signings and teams will already be considering who they could acquire for the 2024 season. We’ve compiled a list of five players who look like they could be set to become the league’s biggest imports of next season.

Saints’ star wants NRL switch

It’s being reported down under that Lewis Dodd has told St Helens that he wants a move to the NRL. Paul Wellens was asked about this and has maintained his stance that Dodd is still under contract with the club, and will continue to be so.

Fresh market for new faces opens up

Whilst the signings that have been made this season have typically been loan deals on contracts whereby parent clubs can easily recall players, there hasn’t been many actual signings. The Corey Hall and Will Dagger swap deal is about the limit given that there are a lack of free agents. One coach has now addressed the fact that the French Elite One competition has finished and therefore that’s created a much wider availability of players, one that teams could target.

Club have made mystery signings

It’s been reported by Jon Wells that Salford Red Devils have made two signings ahead of the 2024 season, however both signings’ names are as yet unknown. There’s a likelihood that the players could be coming from the NRL hence they’re yet to be named, but Wells made the claim ahead of Salford’s clash with Castleford Tigers.

Leeming subject to Super League offers

Kruise Leeming has only been gone from Super League a fortnight but there’s already a demand for him to return. That’s apparent from reports that two clubs have already made offers for him. One key reason for these early offers is the fact he can make a deal earlier than some might have expected.
