Reports: Two former Super League stars set to return to the competition

Two former Super League players could be set to return to Super League sooner rather than later.

Both of them centres who will bring plenty of quality to any side they join as a potential mid-season recruit.

This comes from Jon Wells on Sky Sports who said:

“Dean Whare and Oliver Gildart both could be headed back to Super League. Gildart is currently sat on the sidelines not getting much game time in the NRL. Could the Leigh Leopards be in the frame.”

Dean Whare left Catalans Dragons at the end of 2022 and was linked with a move to Wigan Warriors prior to joining the French Elite One Championship.

Oliver Gildart has yet to feature for the Dolphins since joining ahead of the 2023 season.

Last year he was linked with a mid-season move to Leeds Rhinos before joining Sydney Roosters on loan.

This was after he had joined the Wests Tigers at the start of 2022 after a brilliant career with Wigan winning two Grand Finals and starring for England including scoring a famous try against New Zealand in the 2018 series against them.

In terms of potential suitors for Gildart, Leigh were mentioned by Wells and they reportedly have cap space open.

Phil Clarke recently tipped them to make further signings and Gildart would be an ideal replacement for now Leeds star Nene MacDonald.

Meanwhile, ironically Dean Whare’s exit has left Catalans open to signing a centre so Gildart would be a good recruit.
