Ricky Leutele opens up on switch from Huddersfield Giants to Leigh Leopards

Leigh made a massive statement this week with a rebrand as the Leigh Leopards complete with a new logo and kit.

On top of that, they also made 10 signings including five Warrington Wolves stars, two Leeds Rhinos men in the shape of Tom Briscoe and Zak Hardaker as well as Castleford Tigers’ Gareth O’Brien and Newcastle Thunder’s Nathan Wilde.

However, one of their biggest signings was Ricky Leutele from Huddersfield putting an end to a long saga where the likes of Wigan, Leeds and Catalans were all interested in him as were the Giants as they looked to keep him.

He signed a two year deal to be part of the revolution at Leigh Sports Village alongside the likes of Hardaker and was described by Leigh’s Director of Rugby Chris Chester as a “statement signing” with him being one of the “top centres” in Super League.

Now though Ricky Leutele has opened up on his move thanking his Huddersfield teammates for the last two years whilst underlining his excitement at the next two seasons with the Leopards.

He took to Instagram to say: “Thank you to my Giants brothers for the last 2 years, awesome bunch of lads and my time here has been enjoyable especially this year. Much love and all the best for the future.

“Excited for the next 2 years at Leigh and really looking forward to meeting the new team/staff and to get right into preseason for a big year ahead”
