The Royal Family confirmed the devastating news earlier this evening in what is one of the saddest days in the nation’s history.

The Royal Family Twitter account tweeted: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.

Rugby league clubs far and wide have been sending their condolences in for the Queen – who has reigned 70 years as Her Majesty.

Leeds Rhinos tweeted: “After 70 years service to our country, we are saddened to learn of the passing of The Queen, our thoughts are with all those impacted by the news at this sad time.”

Wakefield Trinity also shared their condolences and thoughts on the devastating news, tweeting: “All at Wakefield Trinity are deeply saddened by the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and sincerest condolences are with the Royal Family. Rest In Peace, Your Majesty.”

Featherstone Rovers also put out a touching tribute, tweeting: “The thoughts of us all at Featherstone Rovers are with the King and his family at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We are grateful for Her Majesty’s leadership and dedication to duty over many decades. Rest in Peace Your Majesty.”

Castleford Tigers also tweeted out a heartfelt message: “Castleford Tigers are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the entire Royal Family, and everyone around the world mourning her loss at this time. Rest In Peace, Your Majesty.”

Referee Liam Moore also put out a touching gesture: “A lifetime of service and the one constant in all our lives. Incredible leader. Rest in peace, your majesty.”

Huddersfield Giants also put out some kind words: “Huddersfield Giants are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the entire Royal Family, and everyone around the world mourning her loss at this time.”
