Super League sponsors Betfred have halved the odds on Castleford Coach Daryl Powell taking the vacant Head Coach position at Wigan for 2019 to just 5/1 .
Powell led Castleford to the League Leaders Shield in 2017 and is said to be very popular in the boardroom at the DW Stadium , it would surely though be very difficult to persuade him to leave Castleford where he is a club legend .
He has been Tigers head coach since 2013 and is approaching 100 wins in his 5 years there , he also coached Leeds Rhinos from 2001 after retiring from a successful playing career . He was moved upstairs by the Rhinos to Director of Rugby 2 years later .
Shaun Edwards remains clear favourite at 6/4 to take the helm at the DW Stadium after declaring an interest in coaching in Super League , stating he wanted the chance to become the 1st coach to win Super League and the Aviva Premiership , which he did as Wasps Coach in 2005 . He also had a distinguished playing career at Wigan , winning every honour in his 14 years there .
Punters thinking Wigan may promote from within can get 7/1 that John Winder is promoted in the same way Shaun Wane was back in 2011 , Paul Deacon and Wayne Bennett come next at 10/1` with Trent Barrett and Dave Furner at 12/1 .
Odds available on the Betfred site for plenty of contenders , Sean O’Loughlin is 20/1 with early front runner Tony Smith at 25/1 .
