Player banned for “foul and abusive language towards match official” as Luke Gale also punished

Once again it has been a busy week for the Match Review Panel.

On Monday they released 12 charges shared by 11 Super League players.

Bureta Faraimo of Castleford Tigers was charged twice and was banned alongside teammates Kenny Edwards and Liam Watts.

Willie Isa copped a two-match ban whilst Leigh Leopards Nathan Wilde were also banned as were Catalans Dragons pair Michael McIlorum and Siua Taukeiaho.

Then Wilde and Taukeiaho both confirmed they would be appealing their bans with a tribunal taking place on Tuesday which overturned Wilde’s ban reducing the charge down from Grade B to Grade A and turning the punishment to just a fine.

Next week Taukeiaho’s case will be heard at a tribunal on Tuesday.

Today though charges were revealed arising from last weekend’s Betfred Challenge Cup and Academy fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions.

Luke Gale – Keighley Cougars – Dangerous Contact – A – £125 Fine
Jake Goldthorpe Smith – Bradford Bulls Academy – Strikes – C – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Perry Whiteley – Dewsbury Rams – Questioning Integrity of Match Official – D – 2 Match Penalty Notice and a £40 Fine

Luke Gale is the stand out name and the latest to be punished for dangerous contact.

Meanwhile, Perry Whiteley of Dewsbury Rams has been banned for two games for questioning the integrity of the match official.

The minutes refer to it as “Foul and abusive language towards Match Official.”
