Phil Clarke says who should start in the halves for England and it might surprise you

It is almost guaranteed that we will see George Williams start for England against France.

He was England’s star player in the World Cup and has been Super League’s best player so far this season and signed a huge new deal this week to stay at Warrington Wolves until the end of 2026.

However, last night he was somewhat overshadowed by a potential halfback partner for England in the shape of young Harry Smith of Wigan Warriors.

Phil Clarke believes last night’s Man of the Match will start in the halves for England against France despite the superb form of Hull KR star Jordan Abdull.

He said: “He was outstanding tonight was Harry Smith. We will probably see him here in two week’s time playing for England against France and rightly so, he was a brilliant performer tonight.”

He also praised Wigan’s defence:

“Back to Wigan’s defence here. This Warrington side played four home games and scored 150 points in those games and tonight Wigan kept them just to six points.”

This assessment was backed up by Brian Carney who said:

“It was only Hull KR who have kept them before to less than four tries. They have been very good in attack so it makes that defence all the more impressive.”

Whilst Jon Wilkin added:

“It would be a badge of honour for Wigan to come here and do that.”
