One of the big talking points from last night’s game centred around the decision to not penalise Sam Walters after what some people felt was a shoulder charge on Matty Lees.
Instead Leeds were awarded a penalty for Jack Welsby running in.
After the game, Sky Sports pundit Phil Clarke said he thought it was a penalty but criticised Jack Welsby’s reaction.
He said: “I thought it was a shoulder charge and probably should have been a penalty. But Jack Welsby got involved and it was completely unnecessary for him to do so.
“I don’t know why? It was like they had never played in a big game or a Grand Final before.”
This all came as he felt Saints were overly aggressive throughout the whole game and lacked the composure they usually have.
He said: “Jet leg is a funny thing and it can do funny things to some people and it seems to have made St Helens overly aggressive. I don’t know if that’s down to being emotional or tired.”
This came after he slammed Sione Mata’utia for being overly aggressive when he was sin binned for a late hit on Aidan Sezer.
He said that Sezer could have been “very seriously injured” by the incident as he suggested Mata’utia could have been red carded for the incident.
