One off contract player Huddersfield Giants should try and sign

Though the 2023 Super League season has yet to begin, preparations for beyond that will have already begun especially as most sides have already done all their business for the 2023 barring the likes of Catalans Dragons, Leigh Leopards and potentially Salford Red Devils.

As in the NRL, considerations will be made to how squads for the 2024 season will look especially after they set the precedent down under of making signings well in advance because of the 1st November rule.

All sides have players off contract at the end of 2023 all of whom could feasible move away in 2024 though in general their current clubs have first dibs.

That doesn’t stop teams from trying to sign them however as we always see plenty of movement confirmed well in advance of a new season.

But which off contract player should Huddersfield Giants be targeting?

There is some uncertainty about the Giants’ spine going beyond 2023. Even in 2023, it is unclear who will start at six and who will start at fullback in the shape of Jake Connor and Tui Lolohea.

With Lolohea at the end of his deal too and with George Flanagan Jr joining the club, there are more questions especially with Will Pryce leaving.

This is why they should consider targeting the exciting Lachlan Lam for the new season from Leigh Leopards. They would subsequently be locking down a long term halfback partner for Flanagan though this could be a disservice to the brilliant Olly Russell.

Either way, it is possible that at the end of the this year the Giants could lose both Lolohea and Pryce and if so they would need another signing in the spine.
