Burgess will face court in new twist as the prop gets charged by police

New St George Illawarra signing George Burgess was in Wollongong on the NSW coast when he allegedly became involved in a fracas with another motorist.

He has now been charged with malicious intent by police.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District have commenced an investigation following an incident at Denison Street, Wollongong, about 6.30pm on Monday where a mobile phone was allegedly damaged,” a police statement read.

“It is alleged a verbal altercation occurred between two men – aged 32 and 29 – before the younger man grabbed the older man’s mobile phone and threw it on the roadway.

“The incident was reported to police and inquiries are continuing.”

It has been suggested Burgess grabbed the phone after being filmed by a passenger in a vehicle, with St George reporting the matter to the police.

“St George Illawarra are aware of an alleged road incident involving 2022 recruit George Burgess,” a Dragons statement read.

“The NRL integrity unit have been informed. As the police are currently investigating the matter, the Dragons will be making no further comment at this stage.”
