On Saturday Hull FC and Salford Red Devils made history when they met in the first Super League game shown on the OurLeague App.
It was terrific coverage of a terrific game and the RFL have now stated that they are satisfied by the viewing figures, though these have not bee released and won’t be, and have hinted at more games being shown on the app.
In the statement made, it read:
“This was the first Betfred Super League fixture which had been streamed on Our League on a pay-per-view basis.
“While we have never provided specific figures from streamed fixture for reasons of commercial confidentiality, we were pleased with the response – both in terms of the number of sales, and the feedback on the quality of the coverage.
“We repeat our thanks to our broadcast partners Sky Sports, to Hull FC and Salford Red Devils for their support of the initiative, and to In Touch Productions for the coverage itself.
“This was always going to be the first of a number of Betfred Super League fixtures streamed on Our League this season, and we look forward to building on this success in the remainder of the year.”
The RFL are very pleased with the weekend’s coverage including the streaming of Catalans Dragons’ win over Wigan Warriors over to France:
“It was one of a number of matches which were shown on a variety of platforms at the weekend.
“In addition to Sky Sports’ live coverage of Betfred Super League fixtures on Thursday and Friday night, the Catalans Dragons broke new ground as their victory at Wigan on Thursday was streamed on the L’Equipe digital platform – and both the Dragons and L’Equipe were delighted by the response.
“On Sunday, two Betfred Challenge Cup Third Round ties were streamed, and The Sportsman had their highest figures for the season, and one of their highest ever, with their coverage of Halifax’s thrilling victory at Featherstone.
“Rugby League Commercial will continue to explore new ways to showcase the best of our sport to new viewers.”
