Love Island winner joins Super League club on trial

Love Island is one of the biggest reality television shows broadcasting at the moment and one of the former winners has had a trial with a Super League side.

Strangely enough, rugby league has had multiple connections to the hit ITV reality show with Leigh Leopards’ Keanan Brand having starred on the show in the show’s ninth season.

Brand has recently just made the loan switch to Championship side Bradford Bulls in an effort to earn playing time and could well feature in the Challenge Cup this weekend.

Prior to Brand, there had been ex-Castleford Tigers’ man Jacques O’Neill who featured on Love Island but there is one man who won the £50,000 prize and has had a trial with a Super League club and that is Kai Fagan who used to play for Featherstone Rovers.

Fagan entered the villa in January of 2023, six months after Brand did, and the ex-Featherstone man only went on to win the whole show.

He’s now looking to forge a way back into rugby league and revealed that he has trialled with London Broncos for their reserve team.

Fagan started his professional rugby journey with Featherstone Rovers whose reserve side he played for before switching codes to rugby union where he played semi-professionally for Burnage RFC.

He has also represented Jamaica on the international stage as he featured for the Caribbean nation’s Rugby 7’s side, which actually makes him a dual-code international.

That’s because during his rugby league days, he represented England at university, and he now looks set to step back into the 13-player code with this trial with the Broncos.

Fagan has amassed a large following on social media from his Love Island fame and on his Instagram account, which boasts 390,000 followers, the 25-year-old posted a reel documenting his efforts on trial.

The footage that he shared of his day on trial with London Broncos was captioned: “Too late for dreams to come true? I SAY NO!”.

He then explained that he had trialled with the Super League side with the video showing him going through drills alongside London’s other reserve team players.

Reserves Head Coach Kieran Robinson explained that he was looking for “core skill and physicality”, something that Fagan will certainly bring given his international pedigree.

The Love Island winner even revealed that he had bagged a couple of tries and is hopeful that he may get a recall, revealing that he’ll “have to wait and see.”

He did  also explain that he had forgotten how physical the game was as well.
