Legendary NRL commentator describes Super League shirt as “one of the worst in rugby league history”

It won’t have escaped your notice that down under it is their Magic Weekend.

This morning Wests Tigers have defeated St George Illawarra Dragons as their season finally gets going with two wins on the spin.

This came without star signing from the Wigan Warriors John Bateman who picked up a hamstring injury just before the game and was a late withdrawal.

Then North Queensland and Sydney Roosters collided in a titanic battle after a hailstorm just before kick-off.

This is penultimate game with all eight games played at Brisbane Broncos’ Suncorp Stadium starting on Friday with two games before three games on Saturday and Sunday each.

Yesterday during Fox Sports’ coverage of the game which was broadcast in the UK on Sky Sports, legendary commentator Andrew Voss spoke about it being a wonderful festival of rugby league.

As he did, the commentator, who came over to the UK for the World Cup and visited pretty much every stadium in British rugby league, said he had seen a Leigh Leopards jersey to underline the celebration of rugby league he was enjoying but also described it as “one of the worst kits in rugby league history.”

“This is a wonderful festival of rugby league. You see every jersey you can imagine,” Vossy said.

“In fact there was one bloke I saw with a Leigh Leopards jersey on, one of the worst in rugby league history.

“There’s so many clubs represented.”

Leigh fans shouldn’t be dismayed by these comments, it is a sign of success that they are being represented and talked about across the other side of the planet which is exactly the aim of owner Derek Beaumont.
