Lee Radford’s statement following shocking Castleford Tigers exit

Lee Radford has been relieved of his duties by Castleford Tigers this morning in a move done by mutual consent.

The decision comes after three defeats to start the season and only six points in their last two games though even that try was a penalty try with no legitimate grounding.

The Tigers have only really produced 40 minutes of good rugby this season.

They clawed back from 32-6 down to push Hull FC all the way at 32-30 in Round One.

This was in the backdrop of the Joe Westerman saga which surely hasn’t helped matters.

A video of the Cas star was circulated around social media just prior to the new season.

Following the news today of Radford’s exit, the former Hull FC boss made the following statement:

“With the club and myself heading in different directions, I think making this early call will be the correct one. Hopefully, it can kick start their season starting this Friday away at Huddersfield.

“I’d like to thank on record the fans, management, coaching staff, and players and wish them all the best for 2023 and beyond.”

The Tigers take on Huddersfield Giants this weekend hoping to get their season up and running.

Radford took over at the club ahead of the 2022 season having left Hull FC mid-way through 2020 after famously being sacked live on Sky Sports.

He endured a tough start in 2022 but turned it around but this time he won’t be at the helm to try and turn things around.

In 2022 the Tigers missed out on the play-offs due to a dramatic last day defeat to Leeds Rhinos.
