Leaving St Helens star’s next destination revealed

Josh Eaves will be a Newcastle Thunder player from 2022, Tommy Makinson has revealed.

The young hooker was part of the unbeaten Academy Championship side of 2016 alongside the likes of Regan Grace and Aaron Smith, progressing through the ranks to make his Saints first team debut in 2019 in a defeat to London Broncos before scoring his first senior try against Salford in 2020.

Eaves said: “I’ve loved my time at the Club. I am a St. Helens lad and to have progressed through the academy system and to play for my home town club has been a dream come true.

“I’ve loved training with this special group of players every day and enjoyed playing my part in the clubs ‘three-peat’. I wish the club all the best in the future.”

Though the hooker’s destination was originally unknown, Makinson’s Instagram post has now confirmed he will be moving to the north east.

Makinson said: “One of the best lads about. People won’t have seen all the impact this guy has had on our club, but over the years even with limited game time and still at a young age he’s lead by example behind the scenes everyday ! what a addition he is for Newcastle! A leader, great player and above all a unbelievable person. Will miss you like you won’t believe lad.”
