Jon Wilkin says Wigan player’s “dangerous” tackle should be punished

In derbies like the Hull derby and the battle between Wigan Warriors and St Helens there are always controversies and fiery moments.

These moments are expected and in the 57th minute of their meeting yesterday, Saints fans likely wanted Wigan prop Brad Singleton shown a card of some description for a high tackle on Konrad Hurrell.

Stuart Pyke said of the incident: “It’s high and it’s Brad Singleton, he was sent off against Saints at Magic Weekend.

“Just a penalty it looks like.”

After this, former Saint Jon Wilkin responded saying that Singleton will get banned for the tackle:

“Just a penalty but he will miss games next week or the week after, no good for St Helens. Look he is falling and Singleton is applying pressure from the inside.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a word with him and calms the situation down.”

Referee Liam Moore was heard saying to the prop on Sky Sports: “It is careless mate, just be a bit more careful mate.”

This came as he decided not to show him a card.

Wilkin though had one last say on what he felt was a “dangerous” tackle.

He said: “It is solid contact with his head though. It is dangerous.”

Saints went on to score a vital try after the penalty but in the end Wigan held on to a 14-6 win thanks to a brilliant Joe Shorrocks tackle on Morgan Knowles.

And Phil Clarke or Brian Carney are okay? They are the two most biased Wigan people on the channel.
