John Bateman eating humble pie following antagonistic St Helens tweet

John Bateman is known for his fiery behaviour on the field, but he can also admit when he is wrong off the field too.

Back in March of the Super League season – which ended on Saturday night with St Helens’ 12-10 triumph over the Catalans Dragons – Bateman tweeted: “When you hear Sts fans talking about going back to back to back” to a caption of him and Wigan Warriors’ assistant coach Sean O’Loughlin laughing.

Well, after St Helens did indeed win three Grand Final trophies three years in a row and it appears Bateman is now eating humble pie.

He tweeted: This has aged well…Congrats to the Sts lads some effort to win it 3 times in a row.”

Bateman and Wigan endured a miserable 2021 campaign, finishing fourth but exiting the Super League play-offs at the first time of asking in a dour 8-0 loss to Leeds Rhinos.
