“It’s a joke” – Derek Beaumont fumes over Leigh Leopards’ social media coverage

Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has financed the club and built yet another very strong squad for 2024.

Leigh Leopards are currently losing to Wigan Warriors but owner Derek Beaumont has found something else to be unhappy about with the charismatic character calling out the club’s social media output.

Beaumont is currently in Barcelona and will be watching St Helens take on Catalans Dragons meaning he’s not at the Leigh Sports Village to witness the ‘Battle of the Borough’.

As such, he’s relying upon the official Leigh Leopards’ X account for minute-by-minute updates, but there was only a major problem for Beaumont. The updates were not frequent enough.

Beaumont took to X himself and tagged the Leigh Leopards’ account asking what was going on while labelling the feed as a “joke”.

He posted: “@LeighLeopardsRL this twitter feed is a joke for supporters trying to follow the game! Has someone resigned without notice? Set by set coverage is the brief!”

Since that post by Beaumont, there has been a rapid increase in the number of tweets from the Leopards’ X account with the set by set coverage seemingly being adhered to.

However, fans of other clubs have joked at the approach by Beaumont to publicly out their social media manager as opposed to simply making contact via private channels.

One fan asked: “Maybe have a private word rather than publicly shame them?”

At the time of writing the post has been shared 56 times with that number rising rapidly.

Beaumont may also regret asking for set by set updates with Leigh currently under the pump and losing 20-6 having conceded four tries in the opening half an hour whilst also seeing star signing Matt Moylan sin binned early on.

The returning Ricky Leutele did pull one back as Leigh responded to tries from Abbas Miski, Willie Isa, Bevan French and Harry Smith with Wigan looking to ruin riot early on.
