Hull FC star pushes underdog narrative after London Broncos clash

Hull FC picked up their first win of the season against the London Broncos in Round Three of the Betfred Super League.

The Black and Whites attacked brilliantly during the game but they nearly threw away the win against the newly promoted London Broncos.

They showed amazing character to recover from conceding from an intercept which gave the Broncos a late lead.

Morgan Smith found his way to the line for the winner and to give the Black and Whites an all important first win of the season.

After the game, Hull FC skipper Danny Houghton underlined the importance of the win as he spoke to Sky Sports.

He said: “First to give some credit to London there, they’ve come here and really tested us out there and given us the right goal. We went up for the win, hopefully it can kick-start our season now and we can move on a bit.”

Hull FC building powerful underdog attitude

Hull FC have had an awful lot go against them suffering two red cards in Round One, the second of which was hugely controversial, and then having Fa’amanu Brown sent off when the score was all square in Round Two.

This would later transpire to be the wrong decision. Their injuries have piled the pressure on Hull FC early and they have stepped up to get a win on the board.

Houghton underlined this after the game: “We keep grinding away. Obviously, the derby, we did it tough. And then that Warrington, we did it tough again. To do it tough but come on the other side is very pleasing for us.”

These injuries led to Hull FC turning to the loan market and Houghton praised new recruits Matty Russell and Joe Bullock:

“Unbelievable. I thought Matty Russell was outstanding for us out of backfield. That’s his go-to, that’s his strength. It’s great for his middle boys not having to get behind that ball as far. And Joe Bullock, he’s come from a great process and great teams. He showed that ability and that toughness that them teams showed. Fair play to them boys, they’ve only been training with us for two days to come in and do that crazy special.”
