“Chill out” – Hull FC star speaks out after near defeat to London Broncos

Hull FC skipper Danny Houghton faced the Sky Sports cameras after his side nearly suffered a shock defeat to newly promoted London Broncos in the third game of the season which surely would have had fans at panic stations as it would have meant three defeats from three.

But Hull FC showed amazing character to snatch the win at the death thanks to a brilliant solo try from Morgan Smith as he jinked passed a number of tacklers to score.

However, there are still some questions circling Hull FC after the performance and Houghton faced them on Sky Sports.

Asked about the win, he said: “First to give some credit to London there, they’ve come here and really tested us out there and given us the right goal. We went up for the win, hopefully it can kick-start our season now and we can move on a bit.”

Hull FC star says they needed to “chill out”

He would later go on to speak about the feeling among the squad after the winning try from Smith against his former club.

He said: “I was absolutely buzzing to be honest with you. We had to work really hard for where I was in the game and you know like I keep saying fair credit to London for that and staying in there and challenging us that way but you know to have that lead and then you know be set back and then Morgan’s come up with that for us you, fair play to him and that desire in that moment.”

Lastly, Jon Wells asked about what was said among the players after London scored to make it 24-22 and made it look like they were set to stun the Black and Whites.

Houghton said: “We just said just chill out, we just needed to chill out, understanding and trusting our process and what was working for them. Like I say, thanks to Morgs for what he managed to come up with but there was no panic behind the sticks after they scored but I’m sure there were a few worried fans but I’m glad we got them two points in.”
