Hull KR dealt injury blow in warmup meaning signing will debut

Hull KR play St Helens this afternoon at Craven Park with the game broadcast on both Sky Sports and Super League+ but the Robins have been dealt an injury blow just five minutes before kick-off.

Willie Peters has been forced to throw new signing Jack Broadbent into the fire at the last moment with starting centre Oliver Gildart pulling up injured in the warm-up.

It means that Broadbent will debut for Hull KR with the centre on loan from Castleford Tigers for the rest of the 2024 season with Corey Hall and Louis Senior going the other way to The Jungle.

Broadbent will then sign a three-year deal to stay at Craven Park from 2025 onwards with the talented centre a highly-valued commodity among Super League sides but it’s a huge ask for him to drop in at such late notice, after only being in the camp for a short period too.

That’s something that Sky Sports pundit John Wells has argued too: “It’s going to be significant adjustment for Hull KR to get used to very early on”.

It is the only change that Hull KR have made from last week’s win against champions Wigan Warriors with star signings Peta Hiku, Joe Burgess and Niall Evalds joining Broadbent and the veteran Ryan Hall in the back-line,

George King is named as 18th man once again as rumours circle that he will be heading back to his hometown of Huddersfield, whilst St Helens have also been forced into one change.

That’s come on the wing with Tee Ritson replacing Tommy Makinson who has come down with chicken pox during the week.

Broadbent will be on the eyes of many Hull KR fans and will likely be targeted by St Helens who know that the centre hasn’t had much notice for the game.

The former Castleford Tigers centre had been named in the 21-man squad meaning that there is no issue with Hull KR being deducted an interchange, as happened last night when KR’s rivals Hull FC faced Warrington Wolves.

Warrington Wolves had named Adam Holroyd in their 21-man squad on social media but it seemed not when they submitted to the RFL which meant that the club were deducted an interchange, something that Sam Burgess was left fuming about.

He called out Hull FC and Richie Myler for failing to overlook the error, arguing that his players’ safety was put at risk.

The two met in the tunnel post-match with Burgess seen to barge through Richie Myler and the pair exchanged words.
