Hull FC hit with potential major blows ahead of new season

Hull FC Head Coach Tony Smith

Hull FC ended their pre-season last weekend with a disappointing result against Wigan Warriors.

However, there were plenty of positives to mine from the performance. The Black and Whites such as their control of possession and territory early in the game.

Furthermore, their defence stood up for the entire first half keeping Wigan to just one try in the first 40. Of course, in the second half they fell away losing 40-0 but if they can translate the start they had into an 80 minute performance, they have a solid platform to build on.

The Black and Whites will be hoping that they can make the top six in 2024 for the first time since 2020.

Hull FC also have injury worries for Brad Fash, Cam Scott, Danny Houghton, Carlos Tuimavave and Ligi Sao and Tony Smith provided an update on the club’s official website:

“He’s alright,” Smith said of Brad Fash, “He’s certainly tweaked his ankle. As to how bad it is, I’m not sure. There was a brief debate as to whether he could go back on or not, but we weren’t going to risk that and do further damage.

“It was enough for him to be concerned about. He could have pushed his way through, I suppose, taped up, but we would rather get it ready for round one in 11 days.

“It was a bit similar for Cam Scott. I brought him off at half-time. He’s tweaked his ankle as well. Once again, we didn’t want to risk doing too much damage.”

Smith added: “Danny (Houghton) had a sprain to his hand so we managed his minutes. We missed him when he went off. We’ve had a little bit of sickness in the camp as well with Carlos (Tuimavave) and Ligi (Sao). There’s some flu so it had an effect before the game, but not during the game.”

Hull will also be without Jake Trueman for the start of the season after his injury at the end of the 2023 season.
