Huddersfield Giants boss Ian Watson on Salford Red Devils resting players ahead of Warrington Wolves fixture

Huddersfield Giants have been in brilliant form in Super League in 2022.

Alongside being Challenge Cup finalists, Ian Watson’s men have been the third best team in the league according to the Super League table – an incredible achievement when considering that the Giants finished ninth in 2021.

That has left the Giants as potential dark horses for winning the whole competition as clubs gear up for the business end of the season.

Following Huddersfield’s golden point win over Wakefield Trinity last night at the John Smith’s Stadium, Watson was asked about the prospect of facing either Salford Red Devils, Castleford Tigers or Leeds Rhinos in next week’s elimination play-off.

The Giants boss wasn’t fussed about who his side will meet, but did have his say on former side Salford resting a number of players ahead of their fixture with the Warrington Wolves today.

“I think momentum is really important, different coaches and different teams they are already in the play-offs. I think they have been great and they are looking forward to that and are resting a lot of players. It’s up to them at the end of the day,” Watson said after the game.

“There’s probably going to be a difference between going to Catalans and them coming down the M62. Salford are one of the form teams, they are a top four squad I signed a lot of those players and I know what they can do.”

It remains to be seen who Huddersfield will face next week, but it has certainly been an incredible journey so far under Watson with his players certainly enjoying themselves under the former Salford boss.

Watson and Huddersfield will learn the fate of their home fixture following today’s results which sees Leeds host Castleford for a place in the top six.
