How the 2022 Super League play-offs will work: ears up the likes of Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers fans

The 2022 Super League play-offs are almost around the corner with just four games of the regular season left.

Then, the business end of the season takes over with the top six battling it out for a place in the Grand Final on 24 September.

As things stand, St Helens, Wigan Warriors, Catalans Dragons, Huddersfield Giants, Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos will progress through to the finals, but things can still change – especially with the logjam fighting for the last two play-off spots.

And, to make things clearer, Super League has revealed just how the play-off system will work in 2022.

“At the end of the 27 round regular season the top six clubs advance to the playoffs.

“Each team are given a ranking based on their league position with the league leaders ranking number one and the bottom team ranking number six.

“In week one of the eliminators the third ranked team play at home to the sixth ranked team and the fourth ranked team play the fifth ranked team. Those that lose are eliminated while the winer progresses to week two.

“The first and second ranked team are awarded a week rest of preparation for the semi-finals.

“For the semi-finals, the first ranked team play the lowest ranked winning team from week one whilst the second ranked team play the highest ranked winning team from week one.

“The winners progress to the Grand Final.”

Hopefully, this run through has put peoples’ minds at ease as to how the play-offs will work in 2022, with Super League.
