For the last six months, there’s been plenty of talk around the future of Oliver Gildart.
Gildart left Wigan Warriors at the end of 2021 to join Wests Tigers but didn’t have the best start to life in the NRL as he began to be left out of the side.
Links started to arise tipping him to sign for the NRL’s newest club The Dolphins in 2023 before he was rumoured for a short term stint at Leeds Rhinos.
This didn’t come to pass and he instead signed for Sydney Roosters for the rest of the 2022 season. This led to speculation he could stay there.
Once more this didn’t come off but over in England rumours once again started linking the centre with Leeds or a move to Warrington Wolves though neither of these claims were substantiated.
Fans started to get excited when he was released from his contract at Wests last week after playing just eight games for the club.
However, once again the Dolphins rumour began only this time it was not rumour and Gildart’s move to the Dolphins was confirmed this morning.
It’s clearly a signing that excites the club with coach Wayne Bennett knowing exactly what he can do having coached him for England.
Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader spoke about this on the club’s website: “Oliver has played rugby league at Test level and is a player who is fast, elusive and has great footwork.
“Wayne Bennett coached him on a Great Britain tour so knows him well, and we believe he may only have just scratched the surface of what he can do in the NRL.
“Importantly, his signature adds another strong option to our backline list.”
