Former Wigan prop begins preparations for NRL return

Unfortunately, George Burgess’ move to Wigan wound up being one of the most disappointing signings in recent memory.

It was not Burgess’ fault however. A former England international, NRL Grand Final winner and try scorer, he has always had definite quality but injuries got in his way at the DW Stadium prompting an early release so that he could recover at his own pace.

Now fully fit once more, he’s set to return to the field for St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL after signing a two-and-a-half year deal with the 2010 NRL Premiers as they look to become contenders again.

After over a year out, Burgess’ return to the field has taken a step forward today with St George revealing pictures of the former South Sydney prop training as he prepares for what could be the most important season of his career.

They captioned the post “Big George Burgess back running ahead of pre-season” and if he gets back to the way he used to run at defences in his South Sydney days he could be a devastating asset for the club and potentially push for a place in England’s World Cup squad alongside brother Tom next year.
