Former Super League prop announces his retirement

After a 16 year long career, Scott Wheeldon has today confirmed that 2021 will be his final campaign.

The Sheffield prop made his professional debut back in 2006 for eventual Grand Finalists Hull FC. Despite making his debut earlier that season, Wheeldon was given the nod at Old Trafford and came off the bench in the defeat to St Helens.

A few years later, he moved to the other side of Hull to join Hull KR. He quickly bounced around a number of Super League clubs playing for both London and Castleford. In 2014, whilst with the Tigers, he made his Wembley debut but unfortunately the silverware again alluded him when Castleford were defeated by local rivals Leeds.

After doing a stellar job at the Jungle, he turned his attention to providing experience to the young and upcoming players in the Championship. He starred at Sheffield for a number of years before impressing at Featherstone in 2018 and 2019.

In 2020, he made the sixth move of his career when he went back to Sheffield where he has now finished his career.

Beloved by the clubs he played for and their fans, he’s been showered with well wishes since making the announcement. A consistent hard-working prop for every side he played for during his long and impressive career, he was an underrated gem of a player.
