Five players left out of Shaun Wane’s squad who should have been included

Shaun Wane has named a huge 40 man squad ahead of England’s clash with France but there are still some major omissions from the squad.

Here are five of the unluckiest players to be left out of the England squad.

Josh Charnley
Josh Charnley may be Super League’s leading try scorer at the moment but he won’t be pulling on an England shirt any time soon. Super League’s third all time top try scorer hasn’t had the England career you’d expect and despite his superb form has been left out by his former Wigan Warriors boss as he scores tries for fun for Leigh Leopards.

Cameron Smith
The Leeds Rhinos loose-forward has been in superb form. He is the league’s top tackler and also brought a real skill factor to his game in the middle of the park producing a sensational assist against Catalans Dragons. Yet he is not included.

James Batchelor
One of the competition’s form second-rowers, he has been a brilliant buy for the Robins. Coach Willie Peters backed him for England at the start of the year and his form is that of an international yet he is not included. The Hull KR star’s brother Joe is also left out due to an injury he picked up playing in Australia for St Helens.

Ryan Hall
Another Hull KR star, he scored a superb hat-trick against Hull FC and has shown he still has what it takes to shine for England. He is a metre making machine and like Charnley is chasing down Danny McGuire’s try scoring record. However, it looks like his England career is over now.

Ryan Brierley
A brilliant fullback with an eye for a try and the skills of a stand-off. With Sam Tomkins left out, you might have expected Brierley to be named in the squad given his form for Salford Red Devils but he is not included. He will therefore continue to play for Scotland but if ever there was a moment the Preston born fullback should have been given the nod for England now was the time.
