Featherstone Rovers confirm one of their former players, Craig Downs, has passed away

Crowd trouble Featherstone

Featherstone Rovers have confirmed one of their former players has sadly passed away.

The club tweeted: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of former Rovers player Craig Downs (#603), who has sadly passed away. We are also saddened to hear about the passing of lifelong Rovers supporter Mick Jeffery at the age of 79, may he rest in peace.”

Craig Downs, who played for Featherstone in the late 1970s, was also related to former Rovers player Dave Downs.

Rovers, meanwhile, host London Broncos at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow night in a bid to extend their winning run to four games.

Only Featherstone, Barrow Raiders and Widnes Vikings remain unbeaten at the top of the Championship table after superb starts to the season.

Rovers are hoping to achieve promotion to Super League in 2022 under new head coach Brian McDermott after falling to short in recent years.

McDermott has brought in the likes of Joey Leilua, Jesse Sene-Lefao and Ryley Jacks as the club aims to reach Super League for the first time in their history.

The West Yorkshire side already got the better of their main rivals Leigh Centurions a fortnight ago in a convincing win, but they will have to play them again at the Summer Bash as well as at the Leigh Sports Village later in the year.
