Exclusive: Catalans Dragons star Tom Davies reveals Super League offers before signing deal

Tom Davies, playing for Catalans, runs towards the line, ball in hand, while playing against Hull KR.

Catalans Dragons star Tom Davies has had a mixed 2022 Super League season.

Despite excelling in the past few seasons, the former Wigan Warriors winger has suffered a tough year, suffering from injury before playing a role in the Dragons’ end of season run-in.

Davies’ form had been so good in 2021 that he earned himself a new three-year deal at the State Gilbert Brutus, despite there being interest from other Super League sides even though he was happy at the French club.

“There was a couple here and there, I was very happy and I expressed that to Steve and Bernard,” Davies told Serious About Rugby League.

“At the same time it’s a short career but you have to get the best out of the contract financial wise.

“It took a while to get it done but that’s rugby league and that’s contracts, you are never going to get it done over a weekend.

“I made it clear I was happy and I’m getting the best out of myself. When I signed on I was very happy to get the deal done.”

In terms of looking to the future, Davies wants to get more game time under his belt but he isn’t looking too far ahead.

“I don’t try and look too far into the future.

“Things can change in a year and coaches and styles can move on. If I am happy then great but if anything changes I can look elsewhere.

“Hopefully next year we can get a good pre-season under our belts and don’t get as many injuries.”
