Ex-Wigan Warriors star Jackson Hastings picks out which ex-Leeds Rhinos player he “looked up to and loved playing against”

Jackson Hastings claps.

One of the best things about rugby league is the respect in the sport.

For 80 minutes players are the worst of enemies but once that final whistle sounds there’s a strong respect between all 34 players who took to the field after the all put their bodies on the line in the name of success and entertainment.

That respect has been evident during the Rugby League World Cup during the war dances from New Zealand and co, Fiji’s hymn as well as the shirts swapping at the end of games which has seen part time players able to swap shirts with the biggest and best world stars.

Some may not be a fan of this and it is often debated in football after Premier League games but one big fan of it is Jackson Hastings who revealed on twitter that it was something he did in Super League.

The former Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils halfback said he would swap shirts with players he “looked up to and loved playing against” and revealed that former Leeds Rhinos skipper and 8-time Super League Champion Danny McGuire was his favourite swap.

However he won’t have received McGuire’s famous Leeds number six shirt only playing against the two-time Harry Sunderland winner in his last two seasons which came at Hull KR.

This means Hastings was one of the last halfbacks to line up against one or Super League’s all-time greats.
