Evalds pushing for International Recognition

Salford Red Devils fullback Niall Evalds wants to push for International recognition in 2020 and beyond.

The 26-year-old had the season of his life in 2019 alongside his teammates as the Salford side defied expectation to reach the Super League Grand Final.

Now, he is hoping to push on further and challenge for an international jersey.

He said: “It was a big year for me, and for everyone at the club. To come through those playoff games the way we did.

“I want to make it a good year for me. Ive trained well and I want to make that next step now and push for international recognition.

“But as long as the team is playing well, then those things should take care of themselves.”

It is a big couple of years coming up on the international stage, with England hosting Australia in an Ashes series in 2020. Then its the 2021 World Cup, to be held in England and Wales.

Evalds was enthusiastic at the prospect of being involved with either one of these events.

He explained: “I want to be involved in both of those sides. Ive already had a taste for it, with the England Knights for the last couple of years and its been great to be involved with that.

“But I really want to take that next step now. We’ll see as the season progresses, but I’m definitely aiming for that sort of thing.”
