Emotional Paul Wellens pays tribute to Bryn Hargreaves

After being missing for 14 months, the body of former Super League player Bryn Hargreaves has been found.

A little over a year ago, Hargreaves went missing in America with his apartment door found open.

There was a police investigation and plenty of civilian support to try and find him.

The family even set up a Go Fund Me page which saw the rugby league community band together as it always does to try and help.

After 14 months, Hargreaves body has been found as confirmed by his brother on Facebook.

What happened to him still remains a mystery.

“RIP Bryn Hargreaves,” his brother stated.

“With incredible sadness I can confirm after 14 months we have finally found Bryn.

“We still do not know the cause of death or what actually happened on 3/1/22.

“Thanks to all those that have helped in the search.

“We would appreciate a little space and will keep you updated when we have any further information.”

Hargreaves started his career with Wigan Warriors where he made 28 appearances.

He also enjoyed a loan move at Leigh prior to joining St Helens in 2007. He played in the 2008 and 2009 Grand Final defeats to Leeds Rhinos as well as the World Club Challenge triumph over Brisbane Broncos in 2o07.

He was also a Wales international. He finished his career at Bradford Bulls in 2012 at the age of just 27.

Following the news former teammate and current St Helens boss Paul Wellens has paid tribute to him on the Saints’ Twitter page.

Wellens was clearly emotional.

“On behalf of the club and on behalf of myself as a former teammate, I just want to extend our deepest condolences to his family.

“It is very sad news that his body has been found and it is a deeply upsetting time for everyone but especially his family.

“I want to place on record how much of a respected person he was when he played here, he was a well liked team member and was so good to be around on and off the field.

“He was a fierce competitor and when I spoke to our team this morning I told them that he was the type of guy they would have loved to have played with.

“It is a huge loss and we’re all very saddened by it and I just want to send our thoughts and sympathies to his family at this time.”
