Drinkwater eyeing Catalans return to link up with Maloney?

Josh Drinkwater could be reunited with Catalans Dragons next season according to reports in France.

L’Indépendant claim the 27-year-old is keen on a return to Perpignan in 2020.

Drinkwater’s contract with Hull KR is coming to an end and Steve McNamara is keeping tabs on the situation.

After today’s confirmation that Tony Gigot will depart the Dragons at the end of the season, McNamara wants another half-back to partner star signing James Maloney.

Matty Smith’s move to the South of France has not gone to plan and the Warrington loanee will be allowed to leave once a replacement has been signed.

Having played a big part in their Challenge Cup triumph last year, Drinkwater is adored by the Catalans’ fans and will be welcomed back with open arms.

The decision to allow him to leave at the end of 2018 is still questioned by supporters, but it seems the former London and Leigh half-back will return to Perpignan after just one season away.
