Disciplinary: England international cops two game ban

England international winger Dom Young was in front of the disciplinary panel down under and has been handed a two-game ban after being shown a red card in Sydney Roosters’ shock defeat to Canterbury Bulldogs.

Young signed for the Roosters ahead of the new season and has seamlessly fitted into a back-line that features plenty of talent including James Tedesco, Joseph Suali’i and Joey Manu.

Part of the Roosters’ downfall at the weekend came an account of Young’s first-half send-off for a high shot, the Englishman becoming the first player to be sent off in the NRL this season.

His high shot on Blake Taaffe came just before the half-hour mark with the Roosters already 18-0 down and they then trailed 26-0 at the break.

They threatened a comeback despite playing with 11 men at one point after fellow England international Victor Radley was sent to the sin bin, but ultimately they ended up losing 30-26.

It has now been confirmed that Young was handed a Grade 3 charge for his high tackle but because of his exemplary disciplinary record, he’s only been handed a two-game ban.

The Roosters confirmed that sharing the following statement on their website: “Dominic Young has entered an early guilty plea in relation to his Grade Three Careless High Tackle Charge after being cited by the Match Review Committee in Round 5.

“As a result, he will receive he will be unavailable for selection in the Roosters’ Round 6 and Round 7 matches.”

Young wasn’t the only former Super League player to be facing disciplinary punishment down under with former Leeds Rhinos playmaker Aidan Sezer being fined $1,800 for making dangerous contact.

The Super League disciplinary news has yet to be revealed but several sides will be having nervy waits following a flurry of yellow cards this past round.

Hull FC extended their poor run of players being sent to the sin bin as they received three yellow cards, forward Ligi Sao twice being sent to the bin with one of those incidents prompting an altercation between him and former FC player Jake Connor.

Other carded players include Jack Brown from the very same game whilst other matches saw Matt Moylan, Sam Luckley and Amir Borough all sent for ten minutes.

With the Challenge Cup quarter-finals coming up this weekend, teams will be desperate to avoid bans. The game of the weekend pits Hull KR against Leigh Leipards in a repeat of last year’s Challenge Cup Final.

Another of the televised games sees St Helens take on Warrington Wolves in what promises to be a thriller.
