Daryl Powell enthuses about Warrington Wolves’ win after slow start against Castleford Tigers

Daryl Powell will have been a very happy man by the end of tonight’s game as his new Warrington Wolves side were able to inflict a big 34-10 defeat on his former side Castleford Tigers.

Powell’s men started slow, but were gifted an interception try in the fifth minute as Matty Ashton raced away for a breakaway score.

Castleford’s only points came through Derrell Olpherts and Jake Trueman as they failed to impress in the second week running.

Powell, however, was very impressed with his Warrington.

“I thought Cas started really well and put us under pressure, but I thought once we got our game together we were excellent and the second-half was a strong performance,” Powell told Sky Sports after the game.

“There were some things there defensively that we will be pleased with and there were some things that happened to us last week that we wanted to tidy up a little bit,

“We wanted to move the ball on certain tackles and I thought the boys were excellent in that regard.”

Powell again acknowledged the big difference from last week’s narrow win over Leeds Rhinos.

“Last week we got beat everywhere but I think we did a really good job today, we’re going to be as consistent as we can.

“We want to build a brand for ourselves to be as successful as we can.”
