Championship club reveals they have fended off Super League interest in star players

Featherstone Rovers have a truly impressive squad full of NRL and Super League experience.

They must be one of the favourites for promotion to Super League in 2023 as consequence and the calibre of their squad has been further underlined by a recent statement made by the club and Martin Vickers.

He revealed that the club had fended off interest from Super League clubs for their existing stars thanks to the support of fans with the Squadbuilder initiative.

He said:

“We recently launched the Squadbuilder plus initiative with a view increasing numbers as we hope to make a significant push this season in terms of putting a team out there capable of being promoted. All of these funds directly contribute to the recruitment of the calibre of Taylor, Aekins, Day, Yei etc and also retaining some of our existing players who have been highly sought after by Super League Clubs.”

One of these players was likely Joey Leilua who Serious About Rugby League understands turned down a sizeable package to join the Catalans Dragons ahead of 2023.

Previously, the club thanked fans for their role in signing Leigh Leopards star Caleb Aekins:

“Aekins’ signing has been in no small part to the continued support of Your Squad Builder members and our thanks goes in particular to those who have already signed up to Squad Builder Plus.”
