CEO says his club have “the biggest pack in Super League”

Warrington Wolves are currently top of the Super League as their 2023 season appears to be a world away from what they struggled with in 2022.

So what is the difference between the Wolves last year to now.

Well a lot of is to do with the squad in the thoughts of CEO Karl Fitzpatrick.

He went on to say that the Wolves have the “biggest pack in Super League” as he spoke on the Out of your League podcast:

“The best word I can use to describe it is balance. We’ve got a balanced squad, we’ve gone top down and bottom up approach in terms of leadership. What I mean by that is the players we brought in were senior players align to what we want from a leadership group. Also the kids that we’ve promoted are totally aligned as well.

“You look from playing styles as well, we’ve probably not got it right previously with George’s half-back partner. We brought Josh Drinkwater in who is a functional, organising seven that gets around the park and let’s George do his thing.

“Then we’ve got the pack obviously. We’ve gone from the smallest pack to probably the biggest pack in Super League and then we’ve got pace out wide and competition for places. The best word I can describe it was a more balanced Warrington team.

“The theme this pre-season and opening rounds is connection. It’s connection to players, their family, past players, supporters and the community. We wanted supporters to fall back in love with the team again and I think that’s a reason why we’ve started off like a house on fire.”

He also spoke about the marginal gains at the club: “Just before Christmas Daryl and I took all the wives out so me, Daryl and 32 women. I felt like High Hefner. But again it was their sacrifice, we took them to a restaurant on a night out to get to know them because we’ve had big turnover. They got on like a house on fire and I think that’s paying dividends now because all the players are getting along. It’s strategic, what do we need to do to get close to the players and their families.”
