Castleford Tigers: Sylvester Namo appeal result confirmed

Castleford Tigers player Sylvester Namo is tackled against Wigan Warriors. He faced intense Super League disciplinary action.

On Tuesday night, Castleford Tigers found out at an Operational Rules Tribunal that forward Sylvester Namo had been banned for five games, a decision that they have appealed against.

They have now had that appeal heard by the RFL today and a verdict has been handed down on Namo’s controversial ban.

The forward was one of three players to be handed a ban after the Challenge Cup Quarter-Finals, however, Catalans’ Bailey Sironen was found not guilty at the tribunal meaning that he escaped without a ban for his Grade E charge.

Castleford Tigers did see Namo drop from a Grade F charge to a Grade E charge but he was still handed a five-game ban, something that the Tigers confirmed they’d appeal yesterday.

The club released a statement explaining: “The club can confirm that an appeal has been launched against the 5-match suspension placed on Sylvester Namo.”

A decision has now been made on Namo’s appeal.

Castleford Tigers learn fate of forward’s ban

It has now been confirmed by Castleford Tigers that Namo’s suspension has been upheld and he will therefore serve a five-game ban.

The club confirmed that via their X profile, posting: “Despite the club’s appeal, Sylvester Namo’s 5-game ban has been upheld and will serve his suspension.”

Namo’s initial charge came for his tackle on Willie Isa that unfortunately saw the Wigan Warriors’ forward dislocate and fracture his ankle with footage emerging on social media of the incident.

That prompted plenty of fans to suggest that the tackle was unworthy of any ban with Namo not at fault for the injury, something that the injured Isa echoed in his statement.

Posting on X, Isa said: “This moment was hard to comprehend + come to terms with but I realise it is part of the game + have no blame on anyone!

“Incredibly grateful for the medical staff at @WiganWarriorsRL & @CTRLFC & for all the messages of support from the RL community.

“The comeback is on.. again.”
