Bizarre twist as NRL star kicked off Samoa team proposes to the woman he is accused of assaulting

2022 was going brilliantly for Luciano Leilua.

He had a terrific season for the resurgent North Queensland Cowboys and was called up to a star-studded Samoa squad for the Rugby League World Cup.

The forward was set to be a part of a squad expected to have huge success in the tournament and they delivered as they made it all the way to the final.

However, Leilua was denied a place on this journey when last month he was kicked off the Samoan team and stood down from all football under the NRL’s no-fault stand down policy in which players are banned from competing while facing serious legal charges pertaining to an alleged domestic violence incident.

So, instead of going to England for the World Cup, he headed to France where he proposed to the woman he is accused of assaulting.

She said yes meaning that Leilua is set to marry the woman he is set to go to court in May for in a case that will see him accused of assaulting.

Not only did Leilua miss the World Cup, but he is now set to miss at least the first 10 games of the 2023 season.

According to the Daily Telegraph his fiancé doesn’t want the case to go to court.
