Woolford: It was more than two points tonight

Huddersfield Giants Head Coach Simon Woolford believes his side picked up more than two competition points tonight.

He believes the confidence it will bring will be invaluable as the season progresses.

His Giants side inflicted a first home league defeat on the Saints since 2018, the perfect tonic for his side, following a heavy defeat at Wigan last week.

“That win was worth more than two points, the confidence we will get out of that. It was really, really important, and I didn’t know how we would play tonight after last week.

“We were really good in pre-season and our friendlies and our first three rounds, and things went a little bit pear-shaped last week, so I wasn’t sure.

“We had a short turn-around, we only had five days, two short sessions so there was a lot of question marks tonight.

“I thought the first 20 minutes was crucial to our chances tonight and I thought we handled it well.

“They rely heavily on Walmsley and Thompson and I thought we did a really good job on those two. Makinson caused us a few dramas, as he does most weeks. But I thought in the second half, we did a good job on him.

“A lot of focus this week, we nailed tonight. From a confidence point-of-view, that’s invaluable that win.”
