Willie Poching gives update on Wakefield job as he wins third game in four

Since Willie Poching took over as interim Wakefield head coach, the former Trinity and Leeds Rhinos has overseen something of a revival.

Wakefield have won three of their four games under Poching, including an impressive 20-13 home victory over his ex-Leeds side.

But, despite these impressive results, Poching is still unsure whether or not chairman Michael Carter will give him the job on a permanent basis.

I haven’t spoken to him yet, but all that will look after itself in due course,” Poching said.

“I haven’t looked past Huddersfield which has been my approach since I took over and I’ve been consistent with that.”

The Wakefield caretaker boss praised his side’s ability to get over the line, even if he did rue missed chances.

“It was never about revenge but it’s good to win a derby.

“Mason Lino and Jacob Miller were able to get us around the park with Kyle Wood due to David Fifita and the forward pack.

“We showed a lot of growth in where we are and I thought we defended aggressively.

“They still took their chances like Leeds do even though they didn’t get many opportunities to score and we had many opportunities that we didn’t convert.”
