Hull KR are on the cusp of their best start to a Super League season ever after their win over Salford Red Devils and in the eyes of star man Jordan Abdull this shows the new consistency at the club.
He told Sky Sports:
“I didn’t know that, it shows how inconsistent we have been for a long time and something we have tried to address in pre-season is doing things consistently which is tough in pre-season without a game but doing the same thing in training with the right attitude.”
This change of attitude comes from new Willie Peters and he said he felt the win against Salford put people on notice within his squad that they have the depth to replace the likes of Lachlan Coote and Ryan Hall:
“Very proud, we have had a five day turn around and a lot of adversity after losing so many players.
“People spoke about depths before the season and tonight it showed.
“We don’t want to get carried away but to beat a good team like Salford away it shows that we do have quality depth, what it also does in house that it puts people on notice that there are people who can take their spot.
“Really proud of the performance.”
Key to this depth was two try hero Sam Wood. On his Peters said:
“Sam was unlucky last week not to get a spot but with Tom Opacic and Shaun Kenny-Dowall but he deserved the opportunity tonight.
“He thanked me at the end but I thank him because he was the one who achieved it and done the work. He has gone after it and he was hungry and he showed it tonight.”
He also had a comical say on Jordan Abdull:
“It took a while to come, in the first half I wanted to chop his leg off. But in the second half he was world class.
“There are a few good kickers in the comp but there’s no doubt he is up there.”
The game was watched by an attendance 5565.
