Wigan Warriors star makes shock decision on his future

Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants have all made some top notch signings for the 2024 season.

Some of the best business has been done by Wigan Warriors. The Cherry and Whites are bringing former Leeds and Huddersfield hooker Kruise Leeming back to Super League and are bringing in a former teammate of his Sam Walters.

Tyler Dupree also joins from Salford Red Devils immediately and have also brought in Adam Keighran.

Now Wigan Warriors have made the shock decision of tying down Patrick Mago after it initially looked like he was headed for the exit door.

The 28-year-old joined the Warriors from South Sydney Rabbitohs ahead of the 2022 season and has made 54 appearances, scoring three tries.

On signing his contract extension, Patrick Mago said: “I’m really happy to have extended my contract. I’ve been here for the last two-years, I’m enjoying my footie and my time here so far – especially with the group of boys that we have.

“I love it here, the fans here are crazy and I’m pleased to be staying.”

Head Coach Matt Peet said: “Patrick has worked tremendously hard to secure this extension with the club. He and his family should be very proud.

“He is determined to build on his recent form and our expectations of him have been made very clear.

“Hopefully Patrick can become a Wigan player for many more seasons as he is a great personality and adored by everyone at the club.”

Wigan have also re-signed Willie Isa. The two-time Grand Final winner has become a key member of Matt Peet’s senior playing group renowned for his professionalism and humility.

On signing his extension, Willie Isa said: “I’m happy to continue the journey with the Club and build on the years of hard work and love for the team.

“I am always grateful and privileged to be in this position and I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the field with the team soon.”

Matt Peet said: “Willie Isa is a crucial member of this team and I am delighted he has committed to the club.

“He has put in some excellent performances this year and he continues to drive standards on and off the field.”

He added: “We feel his presence will be essential, with the introduction of some new players from our academy and from other clubs, his leadership and guidance will help show them the expectations of the club.”
