Wigan 34-6 Wakefield: Player ratings and three major talking points

Wigan enjoyed a stellar victory over Wakefield, but what were the three major talking points and how did the players rate?

Three major talking points

1. Get rid of the on-field referee call

Oliver Partington’s try midway through the first-half was dubious to say the least. The Wigan forward looked to have lost control of the ball before grounding it in the in-goal area. However, because referee Scott Mikalauskas awarded a try on the field, the video referee couldn’t really overturn the decision even though Jordan Crowther looked to have done enough.

2. The hit on Tom Johnstone should have been punished

Tom Johnstone went off with a head knock on the half-hour mark which disrupted Trinity greatly. The winger caught a high ball, but was slapped across the face by Willie Isa as he landed. The hit went unnoticed as Johnstone disappeared down the tunnel and failed to return after failing his head injury assessment.

3. Wakefield’s halfbacks still haven’t gelled

Much was made of Mason Lino’s arrival at Wakefield following a spell in the NRL. But, his combination with Jacob Miller still needs some work as the duo often looked lost together on the field.
