Warrington Wolves star joins surprise club

Sam Kasiano has left Warrington Wolves

Sam Kasiano, a former New Zealand and Samoa international representative, decided to leave the Warrington Wolves in the Super League after just one season.

He has now returned to New South Wales and joined the Dapto Canaries in the Illawarra Cup for the 2024 season. Kasiano will play alongside former NRL players Joseph Leilua, Pita Godinet, and Aaron Gray at the Canaries.

Kasiano left the NRL in 2018 after playing 153 games across eight seasons from 2011 to 2018 for the Canterbury Bulldogs and Melbourne Storm.

During his time in Australia, he was recognized as the Dally M Prop of the Year in 2012, played in the 2012 NRL Grand Final for the Canterbury Bulldogs and was considered one of the elite props in the competition during his prime.

The Warrington Wolves have made a lot of changes to their squad under Sam Burgess and have even seen three of their players leave this week on short term loans.

These players are Brad Dwyer who have joined Leigh Leopards whilst Joe Bullock and Matty Russell have both joined Hull FC to diminish the injury and suspension woes being suffered at the MKM Stadium with 14 players out already.

The Black and Whites take on London Broncos looking to find their first win of the season after losing to the Wolves in Round Two.

This news was confirmed by the club themselves. Dapto Canaries released the following statement.

The club said: “We would like to welcome Sam Kasiano and his family. Sam has played over 150 NRL games with the Canterbury Bulldogs and Melbourne Storm. He has also played over 100 games in the English Super League with Catalan Dragons and most recently Warrington Wolves. Sam has also represented both New Zealand and Samoa at top level.

“We are excited to see Pita Godinet and Joseph Leilua and Sam playing along side each other again in the Dapto jumper as they all once did representing Samoa. Welcome Sam Kasiano.”
