Warrington v Wigan: Predicted line-ups and late injury news

In a game hyped up as George Williams’ potential Super League return against his former club, the focus will now lay at the feet of other players in his absence. After a few weeks off, Warrington will be hoping to rediscover the winning formula that saw them become the only team to beat table-toppers Catalans. Meanwhile, Wigan are on the rise again. Since their defeat against Warrington, the Warriors have pieced together three consecutive wins to reboot their season.

The Wolves’ main conundrum resides on the wing due to Josh Charnley’s absence. The obvious solution may be Josh Thewlis. The youngster has played a handful of games on the flank for the Wire this year however he’ll most likely remain at fullback to allow Stefan Ratchford to continue to cover for the injured Gareth Widdop. Thus, fellow youngster Connor Wrench will be drafted onto the wing despite being a natural centre. The Wire also have some positive headaches in the pack with a number of talented forwards vying for places on the bench. I fancy Danny Walker to feature in some capacity to give Daryl Clark the best chance of influencing two games in five days with Leeds waiting on Sunday.

Where Wigan are concerned, they’ll want to keep continuity in their side following a season plagued by injuries. Thus, Jackson Hastings will again remain at fullback after a superb showing against Wakefield last week. Adrian Lam also has two returnees to potentially bring into the fold. Liam Byrne has overcome a rib problem whilst John Bateman could feature for the first time since sustaining an injury whilst on international duty. I fancy the second-rower to start on the bench especially given the impressive performances of Kai Pearce-Paul recently.
