Warrington star makes huge claim about his teammates as he promises they “will do something special in 2023”

Warrington Wolves stunned Leeds Rhinos tonight in Round One to claim a statement win to start the season.

It was a 42-10 triumph as their attacking players shone but so did Man of the Match and grafted Paul Vaughan on debut.

After the game he spoke to Sky Sports:

“It was awesome, throughout pre-season the boys have been training really hard and after the year they had last year there was a big emphasis on a positive start.

“We did that against Leigh in the trial and even more so today and put a good result on the board.”

He is backing the Wolves to do something special in 2023:

“It’s a really great squad across the board, there is a sense of belief and there is a lot class and a fair bit of recruitment.

“We have the chance to do something special this year. We have great hopes but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves too early but that was positive.”

He also provided some reflection on his own performance:

“I wanted a bit of a breather, it is good to get the minutes there. I was out there for a bit. I wanted to get a grip of how the game is played out here.

“I am looking forward to a good year after a positive start.”

A former star of the NRL, Vaughan also gave some insight into how things were different in terms of the crowd and the atmosphere:

“I was looking forward to the atmosphere. Over here, it feels like the crowd is on top of you.”

Ultimately though for Vaughan, it is all about performances and he is backing the Wolves to do well as he claimed they have some of the best players in the competition:

“We have a lot of experience, and George Williams is a freak and Josh Drinkwater leads us around. We probably have the two best hookers in the comp with Danny Williams and Daryl Clark. It’s really exciting, we have a good pack to.

“Hopefully we can put some good results on the board.”
