Wakefield Trinity star signings sighted in training and could play against Leeds Rhinos

Boxing Day rugby league is the true start of the rugby league season and it’s just around the corner with Leeds Rhinos set to host Wakefield Trinity in the traditional game.

Rohan Smith earlier spoke about his expectations and Rhinos have also announced their team for the game which looks very experimental and features some players out of position, as reported here.

But opponents Wakefield have also got a huge season coming up and in their latest social media posts they’ve highlighted one of their star signings who looks to be enjoying pre-season with his new club.

Atoni has signed from Sydney Roosters and has been granted the number 17 shirt but not all of the new signings have shirt numbers yet with Samisoni Langi surprisingly being ignored for either three or four.

The centre has joined from fellow Super League side Catalans Dragons and has impressed during his four season stint to the point where Trinity have signed him.

As yet without a shirt number the side also shared images of him in action during training which could suggest that the new pair will face off against Rhinos on Boxing Day.

It will be a day for new faces with Rohan Smith having already confirmed that new boys Derrell Olpherts, James McDonnell, Justin Sangare and Leon Ruan will play whilst there are welcome returns from injury for Tom Holroyd, Max Simpson and Morgan Gannon.

Having played on Boxing Day Wakefield will feature in three additional pre-season games including Reece Lyne’s testimonial against Halifax on January 15th, a visit from Championship side Featherstone Rovers a fortnight later and finally they’ll contest the David Topliss Trophy against Hull FC.
