Three potential replacements for St Helens’ Regan Grace as Kristian Woolf hunts wing spot

St Helens’ Regan Grace will leave the club at the end of the Super League season following an illustrious time in the 13-man code.

Grace has arguably become one of the form wingers in the competition, but has signed a rugby union deal with Racing 92 for 2023.

However, which three players could Saints boss Kristian Woolf look to replace him with?

Tee Ritson – Barrow Raiders

Barrow man Tee Ritson has been in incredible form for the Championship outfit, boasting an impeccable try-scoring record as he attracts attention from far and wide. Known for his acrobatic wing play and lightning speed, Ritson is almost certainly a Super League player in waiting and it’s no surprise that Barrow head coach Paul Crarey has been determined to ward of potential suitors as the Cumbrian side continues to defy the odds by occupying a play-off spot. It would be interesting to see if Ritson would adapt to life at St Helens, but everyone starts somewhere.

Lewis Murphy – Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield’s Tom Johnstone has been out for most of the season, but that hasn’t been much of an issue for Trinity with Lewis Murphy slotting into that role perfectly. The teenager has been in inspired form in 2022, scoring some wonderful tries and showing some incredible pace – not least when Wakefield beat Castleford Tigers a fortnight ago and Murphy was able to round Jake Mamo as though he wasn’t there. Always one to help out with big carries out of defence, Murphy will certainly be on a number of top Super League clubs’ radar.

Jon Bennison – St Helens

Of course, Saints are well known for producing from within and the wing spot may not be any different considering the wealth of young stars ready to become regular first-team players. Well, one of those is Jon Bennison who can play at fullback and on the wing with the youngster showing what he can do in previous weeks after being given a chance by Woolf. And, moving forward, it is likely that Bennison will be given more opportunities to showcase his credentials to slot into Grace’s shoes.
